The aim of
the Ship Design Laboratory of NTUA is to advance education and research of
various disciplines of the concurrent engineering approach to ship and marine
vehicles design/operation and of the management/logistics/economics of
maritime transport.
The activities
of NTUA-SDL are reflected through its strong participation in NTUA's
School of Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering under- and postgraduate program,
its participation in a large number of funded national and international (EU funded) research projects,
the organization of postgraduate schools, workshops and international
conferences, the publication of research results in peer-reviewed scientific journals,
books, conference proceedings and technical reports, the contributions of its
members to national and international bodies.

26/03/2013 – Prof. Papanikolaou
‘s
supervised diploma thesis
on "A Holistic Methodology for the Optimization of Tanker Design and
Operation and its Applications" by Lambros Nikolopoulos gained the First
Prize on the GL AWARDS FOR YOUNG PROFESSIONALS 2012.
19/03/2013 – Prof. Papanikolaou ‘s research work on Tanker Accidents and
especially on Tanker Non-Accidental Structural Failures, was the subject
of a lengthy cross-examination during the Enbridge Northern Gateway -
Pipeline Project Joint Review Hearings, see

Prof. Apostolos Papanikolaou visited the
Osaka Prefecture University in Japan since 19th January until 17th
February 2013 on the Special Guest Professor Program , aiming to
stimulate students' intellectual growth, to provide access to the finest
in the world-class research, and to build tighter relations between OPU
and leading universities around the world.
The first
Excellence Conference was successfully held on December 17th, 2012
